This genuine hemp rope is made the traditional way in Hungary - by hand, using time honoured techniques. The hemp is grown naturally in nearby fields. Locals help with the harvest and the work turning the cannabis-hemp stalks into these ropes. We are proud to support this traditional hemp industry, one of the few left from the old days, by bringing these hemp ropes to Aotearoa New Zealand.
Hemp ropes are strong - but not as strong as nylon or plastics, because they are 'forever chemicals' - hemp will break down and biodegrade naturally. Hemp is the strongest and most durable of all natural fibers. It also feels nice to handle, and holds knots really well. It resists outdoor and marine environments better than other natural fibers, which is why hemp was in the age of exploration the main source of ropes and sails.
Applications
Natural hemp ropes are in great demand for animal keeping, for transporting animals, as well as for fixing consignments and loads. Due to its non-sparking character our hemp ropes are suitable for use in the oil industry.
